High on the roofs of the Anderlecht Abattoir is an incredible aquaponic farm: welcome to BIGH Brussels Aquaponic Farm!

A member of the farm team will explain the history of this surprising place, its complex and eco-friendly architecture, as well as the missions that drive BIGH.

You will continue your tour in the outdoor gardens. The views over Brussels are breathtaking!

Next, it is time to discover the secrets that fuel the vegetable greenhouse. Up here, fish farming plays an integral role in the cultivation of delicious tomatoes and aubergines. The team will explain how this virtuous cycle works to benefit plants and fish.

On the 1st floor, herbs rule supreme! Dive into a world of tantalising scents that will awaken your taste buds!

At each stop, you will learn more about the production techniques and strategic choices made to create a stable ecological system.

At the end of your visit, you will leave with an herb (mint, basil, etc.) and a basil-scented lemonade from the farm. You will also have the opportunity to do some discounted shopping!

Workshop location

The farm is accessible by public transport. Delacroix station (line 6) is a 4-minute walk away. Please check the access instructions after booking.

This place is accessible to people with reduced mobility.

Practical information

- be present at the meeting point indicated on the access map at least 5 minutes before the time of the visit

- On market days, i.e. Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, you can enter the foodmet directly and go up the stairs to the left which lead to the toilets. There is a small area next to a glass door where you can wait for the guide to give you access to the roof.

L'ingénierie déployée pour faire fonctionner un système de culture circulaire comme celui-là est fascinante. J'ai apprécié le réalisme du contenu de la visite ; on en ressort plus conscient des besoins technologiques, du potentiel et des difficultés de ce projet. C'est chouette de repartir avec un produit qui a poussé sur place.

Un projet tres interessant, j'ai beaucoup aimée de pouvoir regardée un peu dans les coulisses de cette activité avec beaucoup de cotes interessants entre agronomie, ingénierie, pisciculture et engagement pour un futur plus durable :) guide tres sympa qui repond a toutes les questions!

Belle expérience et ce concept aquaponique est super intéressant. L'animateur était très gentil et chaleureux ! A faire au moins une fois et pourquoi pas s'initier à un projet tel que celui-ci ? Parfait pour l'environnement ! Merci beaucoup à Wecandoo pour cette proposition d'atelier :)
