The workshop in detail

  • 6h
  • 3 to 8 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Step into Cécile's workshop and discover how to handle clay and fire it to make your own unique object. In addition to learning how to model an item, you'll learn all about raku, a magical firing technique!

Firstly, you'll choose from a selection of two small bowls or two cups to glaze. Next, you'll prepare the kiln for raku firing. Finally, it's time to start the firing process with Cécile, who will explain what to do step by step.

Have a great chat over lunch all together. Don't forget to bring something to eat!

You will then move on to an introduction to modelling and learn about the coiling technique. This method consists of assembling a piece of pottery by forming long clay sausages.

You'll model two bowls or cups, which you won't take home, since you'll be leaving with the items you fired earlier in the morning using the raku method!

For the workshop to take place, the weather must also be on board. A dry day is paramount. The workshop can thus only take place if the conditions are met!

Live the life of a real ceramist at this workshop and explore a range of techniques: modelling, glazing, and raku firing! Check out the unique result raku firing has on ceramic pieces.

    Wecandoo - Meet Cécile

    Meet Cécile

    Ceramist

Cécile's first foray into clay was in 1997 during an exchange year in Minnesota. She knew right away that this would one day be her future, it just felt so right! But it was only a few years later when she was on an artists' tour that she discovered a ceramist just down the road from her. Coincidence? No way! The universe had decided to put her back on the path of ceramics.

For a while her 10 fingers couldn't keep up with all the ideas she had in her head. Clay became her outlet, her means of expression - because the words she used in her job as a communications' manager proved to be frustratingly limited! She needed to express herself without overstepping the mark.

Cécile works with clay using a potter's wheel, but also enjoys exploring different modelling techniques as well as Raku firing. She makes her own enamels and produces both utilitarian and decorative objects.

In addition to teaching her craft, Cécile loves sharing the joy of focusing on the simple, beautiful side of things! It's all about the pleasure of creation and exploring clay's possibilities!

Step through the door of her small workshop that overlooks a peaceful garden and enjoy a unique moment with Cécile! She'll enthusiastically share her creativity and energy!
