Find out all about Marc's traditional and woody world and learn how to make your own wooden bowls!

First, Marc will show you around his workshop: he will introduce you to wood varieties and explain the wood lathe technique, as well as the tools he uses on a daily basis.

It will then be your turn to use these tools during an initial introductory session. The day will be split in two, either side of a friendly lunch break* with Marc.

The afternoon will continue with the resumption of woodworking: you will learn how to roughen your piece and then hollow it out to form a bowl. You will repeat the process twice, thus producing a pair of bowls!

You will also be responsible for adding the finishing touches, starting with sanding and finishing with the application of an oil, wax, or varnish.

You will leave this beautiful workshop spent in the company of a super enthusiast with your two wooden bowls, made with your own two hands!

Workshop location

Marc's workshop is 30 minutes by car from central Brussels.

This place is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

I made a bowl with Marc in his workshop from 10 AM to 1 PM. We used Canadian maple, finished with spray varnish (not food safe). While the bowl came out great, I wish there’d been options for different wood, shapes, or sizes, as we still had time left. The process was well explained—tools, techniques, and body movements—and we first did the outside, then the inside. Marc makes his own bowl alongside yours, which means he ends up with many identical bowls he offers to sell cheaply, but it’s not the same as making it yourself. I think letting students practice on his bowl first would be better. Marc only speaks French, but my A2 level was enough to follow. It would be nice to bring a friend to make two bowls, as I think it’s doable in the time given.

Super atelier ! Marc est vraiment sympa, patient et très pédagogue. Il prend le temps de répondre à toutes les questions avec passion et expertise. C’est un vrai passionné qui transmet son savoir avec beaucoup d’enthousiasme. J’ai adoré cette expérience et je repars avec plein de nouvelles compétences ! Merci beaucoup Marc !

Je suis ravi de cet atelier: Marc est un chaleureux pédagogue, et permet à la fois d'apprendre les rudiments de son métiers, et de mesurer que la technique est vaste et que ce qu'il semble faire avec tant de facilité est le résultat de longues années de pratique.

J'ai passé un après-midi formidable en compagnie de Marc : après une démonstration du projet par ses soins, vous découvrez d'abord la prise en main des outils, puis il vous conseille sur les aspects techniques, avec patience et bienveillance. J'ai pu réaliser mon rêve d'apprendre à tourner et je repars avec l'envie d'en découvrir davantage. Merci beaucoup !
