Create your own Japanese-bound notebook with Céline

Create your own A5 Japanese-bound notebook with Céline and discover the traditional technique of Japanese stab binding to craft an elegant, fully handmade notebook.

Workshop outline:

• Introduction: discover the principles of Japanese binding, its distinctive features and the different stages of the process. The boards will have been pre-cut by Céline so you can focus on mastering the technique.

• Folding the pages: fold the sheets that will form your notebook (approximately 100 pages), then place them under press to ensure neat and precise alignment.

• Covering the boards: cover the boards with your chosen decorative paper using the professional tools provided (cutting mat, ruler, craft knife, eraser, cloth, etc.).

• Assembly, piercing and stitching: assemble the various elements of your notebook, preparing both the covers and the inner block. Pierce the assembled sections and complete the Japanese stab stitching to bind your notebook securely and give it its distinctive aesthetic.

• Personalisation: choose from three decorative papers provided or bring your own (suitable for the technique – wallpaper is not recommended) to create a truly unique notebook.

At the end of the workshop, you will leave with your handmade A5 Japanese-bound notebook of approximately 100 pages. A technical guide will also be provided so you can recreate the process independently at home.
