The workshop in detail

  • 2h30
  • 2 to 10 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Kintsugi, also called Kintsukuroi, is the Japanese art of putting broken pieces back together with golden lacquer. Thanks to their golden cracks, repaired objects turn into something even more beautiful..

This technique is related to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi-Sabi where authenticity and imperfections are embraced. It is also born from the Japanese Mottainai, which expresses a feeling of regret when something is wasted. Kintsugi is about giving second chances and stepping away from the culture of disposability

During this two hour workshop, Sebastiaan and Chloé or a professional kintsugi trainer will guide you through the process to repair a ceramic bowl.

You will go home with your Bio repair set as well as your beautiful bowl, reminding you to embrace your golden imperfections.

Wecandoo - Meet Chloé & Sebastiaan

    Meet Chloé & Sebastiaan

    Kintsugi Ceramics

Chloé and Sebastiaan are adventurous souls! After their wedding, they went on a honeymoon backpack trip, but ended up living and working abroad for almost two years! In 2020, their travelling adventures were suddenly put to a stop.

Looking back, they appreciate the forced break, which allowed them to reflect on what they truly wanted to do; it was a journey of self-discovery.

When a family member visited them in Belgium, he introduced them to the art of kintsugi. They immediately embraced the beauty and philosophy behind this craft. They had always dreamed of starting a business in which the product matched their core values: sustainability and authenticity. Kintsugi brought it all together.

They decided to use CHIYU as their brand name. Much more than a method of repair, kintsugi is also the art of recognizing that in the process of healing, something beautiful, unique and resilient is created.

They want to inspire you to slow down, to reconnect with yourself, to embrace and celebrate imperfections. Acknowledge the person you have become throughout a journey filled with joy and sadness, which is called life, and know that you are better with your golden cracks.

Great workshop, with a nice teacher ! We learnt the basis of kintsugi to fix a bowl (that we broke just before for the exercice). We also received a kit to practice at home. We came back home with the bowl we fixed during the workshop ;) Thank you very much to Sebastiaan (who had to alternate between French, Dutch and English) ! Highly recommended ! :)
