Artisan Verrier
Brussels
Septy has been working as a glassblower since the early 2000s. After three years of training at the Centre Européen de Recherche et de Formation aux Arts Verriers, he graduated as a master glassmaker. He then spent five years travelling around Europe as a journeyman glassmaker, gaining experience and meeting new people.
He is now based at the Abbaye du Rouge-Cloître in Brussels, where he works with flame-worked glass. He mainly makes beads, jewellery and spun glass sculptures. He has developed precise skills in glass lacemaking, a technique that requires rigour and patience. His creations deal with themes related to beliefs, be they religious, political or philosophical.
Recognised in his field, he has presented his work in a number of exhibitions, including the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Nancy. During the demonstrations, workshops and events he leads, he takes the time to explain the steps involved in working with glass, the techniques he uses and the challenges of his profession.
For him, this craft is also a way to concentrate, to escape from everyday life and to pass on technical know-how in a clear and educational way.
