The workshop in detail

  • 3h30
  • 3 to 7 participants
  • 15 years min.
  • Welcome to Sophia's Mitsuro Hikime workshop for a hands-on journey into the world of ancient Japanese wax art.

During the workshop you will learn the techniques of working with Mitsuro Hikime wax, a blend of beeswax and pine resin known for its pliability and unique linear patterns. Sophia and Lieselot will guide you through the process and show you how to shape the wax into rings, earrings and other jewellery.

Each participant will have the opportunity to create a silver ring during the workshop. Additional pieces can be cast for a small fee. All materials including wax, tools and refreshments are provided.

Classes are kept small to ensure individual attention and bilingual (English/Dutch) tuition is available. Whether you are a beginner or have some experience in jewellery making, Sophia and Lieselot's workshop is designed to cater for all skill levels!

Please note that although you will leave the workshop with a wax model of your silver ring, the final casting and polishing process will take approximately 3-4 weeks. You can either collect your finished piece or have it sent to you.

Join Sophia and Lieselot in their workshop to discover the artistry and craftsmanship behind Mitsuro Hikime and leave with a creation of your own!

    Meet Sophia

    Jeweller

Sophia's journey into jewellery design began with her goldsmithing studies in Schoonhoven, The Netherlands. She furthered her skills through apprenticeships with Peter Vermandere and Philip Sajet before venturing into the industry as a goldsmith and 3D designer for various brands in Berlin.

After co-founding the jewellery collective Argyria, Sophia returned to the Netherlands where she currently works from her own studio. Since 2023 she is a member of the jewellery collective The Pool in Amsterdam, where she shows her creations.

In addition to her personal work, Sophia collaborates with Lieselot Versteeg, an independent artist, to run workshops in wax carving for jewellery. Together they offer hands-on learning experiences for those interested in exploring the craft.

Sophia's dedication to her craft and commitment to sharing her knowledge make her a valuable asset to the jewellery community. Join her in discovering the artistry and craftsmanship behind each piece she creates.
