  • In this 2 hour workshop, Raymond, an accomplished ceramicist, introduces participants to the fascinating world of marble ceramics. This session is designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the pottery wheel and the unique technique of marbling in pottery.

The workshop begins with an introduction to Raymond and his expertise in blanc ceramics. This sets the stage for an immersive learning experience, where participants are not only introduced to the craft, but also to the artist's personal journey and approach to ceramics.

Next, participants will learn to master the basic techniques of the pottery wheel. Participants learn the foundational skills necessary to shape clay, with the opportunity to create 3 different shapes. This hands-on experience is essential for understanding the nuances of working with clay and the dynamics of the pottery wheel.

Next, participants are guided through the process of marbling, learning how to mix different clays to create unique, swirling patterns. This technique adds a distinctive and artistic touch to pottery, making each piece a work of art. Raymond provides step-by-step instructions on how to throw and shape the clay, ensuring that each attendee gains practical experience in this technique. You will be taught to create three different shapes, a plate, mug and bowl.

Participants are also assisted in the trimming process and the application of a transparent glaze, which adds a professional finish to their creations. Following the workshop, Raymond takes care of the final steps of firing the pieces.

    Rencontrez Raymond

    Ceramic Artist

Raymond, a potter with a unique philosophical approach, draws his inspiration from Daoism, particularly the concept of "emptiness." This principle, central to his craft, influences his perspective on the functionality and purpose of his ceramic creations. He believes that just as the empty space within a ceramic vessel renders it useful, embracing emptiness in life can lead to clarity and a harmonious balance.

In his pottery, Raymond focuses on capturing and celebrating the simple yet profound elements of everyday life. His work is a testament to the beauty of the ordinary, a reminder that joy can be found in the most mundane aspects of daily existence.

Raymond's primary goal is to craft vessels that are not only functional but also imbue a sense of tranquility and mindfulness into daily routines.

By integrating this philosophy into his pottery, Raymond offers more than just ceramic pieces; he provides an experience, a chance to find balance and peace in the act of using his vessels. Each piece is a reflection of his belief in the importance of simplicity, functionality, and the profound impact of 'emptiness' in bringing balance to both art and life.
