Igor Ilanga's journey in the world of fashion is marked by a quiet passion and a thoughtful vision. His academic tenure at a renowned fashion academy was a period of dedicated skill refinement, culminating in a significant internship with Dries Van Noten. This experience was instrumental in shaping his perspective, but it was his intrinsic motivation that led to the establishment of ILANGA.

The name ILANGA, echoing the Zulu word for 'sun', symbolises more than a fashion brand; it represents a tranquil dawn in the industry. The ethos of ILANGA is grounded in innovation and sustainability, focusing on reviving deadstock materials through thoughtful and intentional design. The brand draws upon an array of pan-African dyeing and garment-making techniques, creating a collection that is not only visually appealing but also culturally enriched.

From an early age, Igor's connection with fashion was evident. His childhood memories of trying on his father's clothes and exploring different styles quietly informed his later work. During his academic and professional journey, Igor became acutely aware of the material wastage in the fashion industry, leading him to explore the sustainable practice of natural dyeing. This method opened up a world of understated elegance and endless colour possibilities, allowing him to connect with diverse cultures in a harmonious way.

ILANGA's serene approach extends beyond clothing design. Igor also lends his calm creativity to other designers seeking sustainable solutions and offers consultancy in the fashion industry. His approach encourages a gentle yet effective shift in product development, promoting a more mindful, environmentally conscious, and culturally sensitive perspective in fashion.
